British Petroleum Company. The Teutonian, which is 389 ft. in length, with a breadth of over 50 ft., is divided into 14 compart- ments, and is provided with two cofferdems, to enable three gradea of oil to be carried. This boat" will be used to convey Sholl motor spirit to Great Britain from the East. The tanks are of the regulation size, and comply in evory respect with the Suez Canal requirements. The engines and boilers have bean built by Messrs. Dickinson, the former being of the latest triple expon sion typo, and a speed if 11 knota an hour can be maintained when the vessel is fully loaded. The boilers are fitted for burning oil ful. All the latest auxiliary machinery has been installed, and the cargo weight is 6,750 tons, which can be discharged at the rate of 500 tons per hour. In the accommodation for bath office,s and men the newest ideas have been incorporated.

a rather peculiar mishap. Accord- ing to her genial skipper, Capt. J.Evans, the vessel, of some 4,863 tone burthen, left Susz on February 20. She had as cargo 0,856 tons of petroleum, loaded at Batoum and about 900 tons of banker ooal. With the vessel helpless it was imperative that something should be done without delay.

time was not favourable for rigg- ing a jury rudder a large 24 inch coir bawser with a heavy chain attached was passed over the stern and made fist with strong wire rape guys. These were run through outriggers supported in a capstan on each side. To further assist the vessel in steering sails. were hoisted and in this way some 400 knota were covered, at a rate "of 614 knots an hour. On March 6 the captain decided to tip the ship and stop the engines. to the remaining portion of the large iron plate was then filted rudder post, together with the large rudder need when navigat ing the Suez Canal which had been strengthened with angle burs. This jury rudder worked well and an average speed of seven knots was maintained over the 700 miles to Colombo.

Colomboresobed, the vessel was Lloyds Surveyor and diver. After examining the stern and bottom the diver reported that there was no sign of the vessel having touched any obstruction, although the stempost had broken from scarph to scarph, an improvised jory rudder was constructed and fittod down to the level of the 20 foot mark after which a certificate of seaworthiness was granted by Lloyde.
