Steamer Sold. The steel steamer Llarpenden, of 3,553 tona gross, which has made several voyages to Skang- bai, has been sold to foreign buyers for about £30,000. She was built at West. Hartlepool in 1900, with dimensions 347ft, by 47.4ft. by 25 2ft. Her late ownera were Messra, J., and O. Harrison,, Ltd., London. -

Bad luck appears to follow the Bucknall steamer Ikalie which struck a rock and foundered off.

Muroran last year and was after-

ward doated. On February 6, while coming through the Canal, abe struck the bank, 13 frames being buokled and a number of rivets broken and sheared, and the shell plating in bilges set up for 20 feet. Cargo had to be discharg ed to enable repairs to be exsout- led and she sailed again on

The first steamer of the new lino. between Japan and Iduis the Tasei Maru, 3,580 tone, left Bombay for Madras, February 24. The new line will tonoh Bom- day, Madras, Bangoon and Straits ports and will come into direct competition with the British India line and the N. Y. K. It is under- stood that the line, which has heen organised in Japan, has secured the backing of influential Indian capitalists at Bombay....
