On February 20 the ice from Niucbiatan up to Sanchintza began to thaw, Pontoons, which had been wintering on the River bauk, were then got ready to be placed in their positions when- ever necsiaury. The first steamer to visit Nowchwang for the prezent year will by the 8.8. Sekkai Maru, of the Tungho Co., Newohwang, which was scheduled to leave Chefco on the 2nd inst. and to make her entry on the 5th, via Tientsin. The 8.8. Fuso Maru, of the same firm, was to follow thecato in her wako on the 9th from Chefoo.

Missing Steamer's Crow.

The steam-tendor Niitska Marn, 160 tons, of the Chemulpo Police Siation, recently left Chemu ço in search of the missing crew, 35 in all, of the se. Katsuyama Mata, which foundered at January near Clifford Ieland off Chemulpo. She had started her searching operations along the coasts of Zajaan Peninsuls, but ro clue was obtained. She then croised about Anminto Island, and re- covered a life-boat. identified to have been one of those belonging to the steamer together with six- teen corpses, including those of the chief enginear, chief mate, other officera, stewarde, carpan- ters, etc, all wearing cork jackets and life-bolta. Poltava and the tender Alexandra belonging to the Shanghai Tag and Lighter Co. came into oollision on the river at a point about half way between Shanghai and Woosung on the 6th. inat. Results might hava been disastrous but for the fact that the lightness of the tender. caused it to recoil from the larger. vessel, the tonnage of the Poltava being about 2,000. Shortly
