The Sewage Question. Many towns in England treat their sewage iu bacteri beda, and as such a system for Hong- kong has been advocated by a practical engineer long resident in the Colony and intimately acqasinted with this method of sewage disposal at Beme, it is. surely worthy of careful examina- tion.. The Colony's present methods of disposing of its and refuse are primitive and obnoxious, and we doubt if in the long run dealing with it by means of sorg beda and dust destructɔre would not prove cheaper. It would s certainly prove more effectual, and we should hear less not only of the pollution of the waters of the Colony but also of danger to' the public health from inadequate flashing of drains and- sewere. Urgent Sanitary Needs. The many questions put by Mr. Bowley at Tuesday's meeting of the Sanitary Board, though they are still unanswered, bave Ferved to awaken public interest in a matter which seriously con- cerns the health of the commun- ity Unused storm water drains, of which there are more than the public is aware, are a graye source of danger and it is impera- tive that they should be filled in without delay. On account of the volume of water required before effective work ran be done, but the dredging and cleansing of the outlets should be taken thoroughly in hand at regular intervals.
