Pilgrims in a Panic

The British steamer Nith, with 600 Moors on board, many of them wealthy men, who are returning to Morocco from Mecca, arrived at Malta recently. The steamer was not expected to call there, but the captain was forced to patlin at' Malta by the pilgrims, who ap pear to be obsessed with the idea that if they remained on the Nith they would, perish. Their ent reation with the captain to seek shelter at Malta failed but they assumed soch. athreatening attitude that the captain did not think it prudent to continue the voyage, and shaped his course for, Malta. Since their arrival the Customs authorities tried: 10 reassure the pilgrims, and induce them to resume, the voyage, but they obstinately refused to listen to advice. The ship was unable to weigh anchor, as the pilgrims. were desperately guarding both ends of the ship, and would not allow the crew to approach; the anchors. The better clasa pan
