Two Steamers Ashore.
The Japanese salt steamer, Tenryn Maru, inward bound, went ashore on the Tsungming the East Entrance Buoy on Janu- Crossing, three miles E, S. E, of
ary 29 and was towed off by the tags Victoria and Fuhlée on the 31st. Another Japanese. steamer, the Name of which has not been as- certained, was reported ashore in the Bouth Obannel 13 miles in- side the Middle Ground Buoy on February 2.
A Collision.
A colleion occurred outside' of Chemulpo on January 16 between the Japanese steamer Nateten Mara, 1,332 tons, outward bound, and Miyashima Maru. The Nanatsu Maru, bich had just got under way, drifted across the bows of the other vessel which
was lying at anchor and was so badly. holed amidship that she sank before steps could be taken to beach her.
A Shipping Rumour, Rumour has it that when the four new steamers of the "Paul Leoat type now building are completed, the Messageries Mari- times will make Penang a port of call, say the Straits Echo.
Benefit to Hongkong. The new tariff aot of the United States has abolished the one bottom rule requiring shipments of goods to the Philippine Islands from the United States to be not
