When Dr. Sun Yat- ea an nounced bis scheme forvering the map of China with a network: of railways, and said he meant to get abont 200,000 li of railways (75,000 miles) constructed within ten years, he was widely regarded 1s a fit subject for a lanatio But the Minister of sylum. The Minister was speaking at a meet- ing of the members of the National Railway Aeenciation at Peking, which was attended by upwards afa thousand persons representing the different railways and politi cal organisations. It was at the fast annual meeting of this body that Dr. Sun Yat-sen outlined his cheme, and the Minister of the Luterior, who is the Honorary President of the Association, referring to this, called attention to the fact that since that date contracts have already been made. with foreign capitalists for the construction of railways whose combined length would exceed 10,000 .
