Although the Chinese Customs receipts for 1918 rer shed a record total, indicating a prosperous condition of frade,

We are now within a week of the New Year according to the old style which continues to ta generally observed in Chinese business orioles (not withstanding that officially the Gregorian calendar has been adopted).
