New York, Deo. 15-Mr. Lovett, the chairman of the Union Pacific, in the annual report published to-day, says that the company made a profit of $58,855,000 from the sale of the Northern Pacifio and Great Northern holdings and $16,210,- 000 from the recent sale of the Southern Pacifio. After pointing out that the market value, of the investment securities still owned has depreciated by $40,780,000, ho says that a reserve fund of $50,000,000 has been established to cover the depreciation in securities. His remarks in this connection are taken to mean that the profits from the sales above mentioned will be held intact until the Government suit against the Southern Pacific's ownership of the Central Pacific is 'settled. The Union Pacific's gross earn- inge in 1913 amounted to 1,810,000, an increase of $7,630,000. The surplus for dividends is increased by $2,737,- 000; the final balance, after dividends had been provided, amounted to 1,131,000.
