Bouth China Morning Post,

Huerta on the Warpath, With Haorta on the warpath the overthrow of the Mexico City Government might be compara- tively easy, but this would not in the least remedy the situation. More than likely the subjugation of the Federal forces would serve for the moment to increase law- lessness and farther ondanger the lives and property of foreigners. Having disposed of Huerta, the next problem, - in all probability, would be Carradzą

Huerta' and his following. claims to have an army of 80,000 men, widely scattered and possibly not more than two- thirds of them trained troops, Carranza's force is computed at about the same number, even more widely, scattered and with lees experience of disciplined: warfare. Taking, all the foots into consideration, the United States army has no picnic in prospect if it intervenes in Mexico, and General Victoriano Huerta realises this in tabling bis last card and himself buck- ling on the sword of leadership.

The desire for reform was ardent and wniversal, but while. everybody proolaimed himself B Republican it was patent that no common understanding existed as to how republican government in China was to be attained. On the one hand there was Young China led by Dr. Sun Yatsen, Huang Hsing and others strugg- ling to fit on to Chins a ready- made constitution borrowed from the United States, and on the other hand we had the more conservative element représented by Yuan Shih-ksi, and most of the experienced administratore in China, watching dubiously. the outcome of the great experi ment Young China, led by the student class, was valiantly making.
