Steamer Damaged.
The Russian steamer Australia, while going alongside at Vladi- vaatok on November 10, struck the pier and sustained consider- able damage to her bows. After being temporarily repaired, the vessel was enabled to aait. A claim for 2,000-Roubles has bean made for damage to the pier.
N.Y.K. Boats.
The new N.Y.K. steamer Tokushima Mara, 6,000 tons, which arrived in Japan recently, will be placed on the new Ant- werp cargo service, calling at Dairen. She leaves on her maiden voyage early in January and will be followed by the Tottori Mara which has also been constructed in Great Britain.

Chinese Steamship Co. The Minister of Communication has proposed, says the Peking Gazette, to start a big steamship company in order to develop the navigation of the country, and the following are his proposals: (1) The capital shall be 850,000,- 000, and the enterprise shall be
