ALLEGED FRAUD,

Story of a Bill of Exchange.

At the Pulion Court, this marn- ing, before Mr. J R. Wood, Chan Ting, alias Com Yuen-ket, was charged with unlawfully attempt ing to obtain the sum of $1,000 by frloo pretences with intent to defraud; and also with felonione ly signing or indorsing a bill of exchange for the sum of $1,000 in favour of Chan Kwai with in- tent thereby to defrøud. ·

-Lord French, representing Messrs Paulings, and the Ministers of Communications and Finance, last evening signed an Agreement providing for the construction of 800 miles of railways from Shani to Singyi-fu, with a branch from Changteh to Changsha,

Mesara Paulings are arranging the flotation of loans to cover the cost, and the security will be the line itself.

The Agreement provides for the engagement of British accountants and a British Engineer-in-Chief.
