Terrible Arctic Experience.JAN The whaler Erm arrived in the Thames recently with the crew of mx of the whaling ketch Ernest William, of Dundee, who had a terrible experience in the Arctio Region, The keton left Dundes on June 1 with a cargo of pto- visions for the Esquimanx, on 0 whaling station at Kirkerton, She was caught in ice in the Cumber land Gulf, Baffin Land, in August, And drifted helplessly for a fort night, tossed like a shuttlecock by the heavy bergs. The crew were at the pumps day and night for three weeks, and had practical ly given up all hope, when a boat from the station, in charge of the Rev. Edger Greenshiled, sighted hem. The boat could not resch the ketch, but two days later, the Erm picked her up, and she was beached in a terribly battered condition.

The Rev. Elgar W. Green- abield, who arrived back on the Erm, interviewed, said that if the Erm had not gone to the as- sistance of the Ernest William the crew would have been compelled to pass the winter in the loo-bound regions. She had been literally hacked to pieces, and had to be besobed and bandoned. "I shall never forget," the missionary said, expressions on the faces of the crew when at last, they realised that their awful nightmare had passed.
