In a recent issue of the Govern ment Gazette (Singapore) appears the text of an ordinance to con- solidate and amend the law relat ing to the issue of Government ourronoy, which is to be intro duced into the Legislative Coun- oil. The objects and reason of the bill, signed by the Treasurer, Mr J. Q. Anthonisz, are of some length. They are reproduced

The object of this bill is the consolidation of the laws relating to currency and in accordance with the instrqotions issued as ragarda currency legislation the bill has been abmitted to the Secretary of Stats for the Colonies, been considered by the Lorde

Fund the method of ascertaining what is required from general revenue is changed. The amount to be made good from revente will be the excess of the nominal volas of notes in circulation over the market value of all the securi. ties and the nominal value of the current coin in the Currency Guarantee Fund. This payment will only be made on the direc tion of the Governor with the sanction of the Scoretary of State. The payments or portion thereof are recoverable whenever the market value of the securities and the nominal valne of the current coin in the Currency Guarantee Fund together with the contribu tions from revenue excred ibo nominal value of the notes in, circulation to the amount of

Of the coin portion of the fund (viz., one-half of the notes in circula- tion), two-thirds must be held in the Colony in the following pro portions not less than three- fifths in full, lagal tender silver coin, but the balance may be held in sovereigns. The remaining one-third may be held by the Crown Agents in London the following proportions--one- hulf in sovereigns and the "other half in loans at call, Treasury bills and such other short losos as may be approved by the Secretary of State. Ag. regards the investment portion of the fund the prohibition as to the Government of this Colony is ro moved. This is in accordance with the Indian practice-a proviso has, however, been added that the investments in this Colony's securities shall not ex-
