ALLEGED BRUTAL

MURDER.

Girl Found Hanging from a Tree

Before Mr Hazeland, at the Police Court, this afternoon, a Chinese youth named Mok Tong, was charged by luspector Mor Hardy with the murder of a little girl at Causeway Bay at the rear

of the Cotton Mille.

Mr Woodoook, Assistant Crown Solicitor, prosecuted, the case be ing undefended.

In outlining the case Mr Wood- cook said the charge against the defendant was one of murder, and the evidence he was going to place before his Worship would be na brief as possible, as follows. When they went to live at this house they found the defendant there and he continued to live with them, until the 12th inst,

His Worship: Why was he living in, the bouse?

Mr. Woodcock answered that the family came from Canton and they undertook to get a certain number of workmen from Canton; and they really kept a kind of boarding house for people working at the Cotton Mills. Practically the whole house was taken up by people during the day; they slept there during the day and worked at night, and those who worked during the day slept at the house at night. On the 12th. inst, the mother of the girl went to the market in the morning, and left the defendant and the daughter in the house. When she came back the defendant and her daughter were still in the house, and about ten o'clock the daugh- ter gave the mother certain information, and the mother
