If the improvements now in contemplation at Madras harbour are carried out to time, in three years the berthing accomodation at the port will be considerably made for providing berthing inoreased. Provision has been accommodation for no less than aine steamere, and the old ocean pier, where landing and shipping has been done since 1858, is being dismantled. The Port Troas authorities in Madrus have got an estirnate sanctioning their acquiring the whole of the western face of the barbour.
