Fanling Golf Course.

It was mentioned that the Olab has spent, or is engaged in srand- ing. $70,000 on improvementa in the locality, and, also that the revenue derived by the railway from the of the Golf Course at Fanling is timated at $10,000. per annum. The Government. therefore, feels that some en- couragement should be given in the gircumstances; and we think most men, whether they are ad- diated to golf or not, will endoren the Government's action. Golf has become an exceedingly popular pastime in the Colony among residents, of both sares, and there is very little doubt that when the ladies! course is provided, the railway revenue will abow a considerable improvement over, the already astonishing Bigare. Moreover the money which the Golf Club have expanded in laying out A their eighteen-hole course on the 88 acres of waste land they have leased from the Govern- ment, and in the building of the commodious elab-boues, fonds to the enhancement of the value of the surrounding land, so that we imagine it is a matter of some importance to the Club to be able to obtain the land earmarked for a ladies' courea whilo land values remain at their present figure in the locality. Since the acquisi tion of the golf course at Fanling the district has certainly begun to show many indications of de- velopment, not necessarily because. it has become a centre of stirar- tion for golfers, though this fuct may not have been without in- fluence upon the minds of others who have been attracted by the possibilities the district effe whether for residential purposan or for agricultural development.
