Prince Louis of Battenberg has made an appeal for the Dreadnought Hospital at Green wish which one may venture to hope, will not fall on deaf ears. The hospital, with its offshoot at Albert Docks, is the only insitation which ex- Ista specially to meet the need of mailers of the mercantile marine wing the Port of London. Many of those who know anything about it at all, I believe, imagine that it in supported by the

We are, perhaps, a little heedless of ourobligations towards the mercantile seaman. The public will always give an ear to the needs of the bluejacket, "though not beyond his needs and deserts. But the Merchant Service ie no long- er regarded as an essential part of the whofe ses service of the Empire, though the life of the Empire was never more de- pendent upon it. There is, cer- tainly, no bread of men more liable to obsaces requiring hos- pital treatment; none more help To abould the need come, and none with a batter claim to the consideration of the public. The Dreadnought Hospital needs modernising. It is desized to provide better quarters for the nursing staff, to instal lifts, and to provide a steam launch which shall be available to fetch cases from the ship to the hospital. After these requirements are supplied, there is the usual used for more money for main tenance. We most of us travel by steamer some time or the other nowadays. Is it too much to ask all those who have gone down to the sea in ships to contribute something towards meeting the necessities of those who have kept them se safe and as comfortable as if they were at the Metropole?
