the case.

ABSCONDING BANKER.

Curious American Case.

A Philadelphian bank defaulter, who absconded a year or two ago with £350,000, turned the tables on his accusers by surrendering and restoring the whole of the booty, thus securing the annul- ment of the indictment against him and leaving the Court an exonerated man.

The fact is that the returned prodigal, who is named Shourds, not only made restitution of all he took from the Merchants' Union Trust Company, of which be was a trusted official, but gave £1,000 as a sop to the injured feelings of the bank's directors.
