The annual report of the mana- ger of the British setion of the Kowloon-Canton Railway gives some indications of the amount of uphill work that has to be done by now railway entorprises in China, Faye the "North China Daily New," especially when the country it traverses is in an un- ́settled condition. Last year the revenue derived from coal pas eenger traffic was slightly less than in 1911, although fares were reduced and every encouragement was offered to fravallars. In spite of strenuous efforts to secure goods, development of this traffic is also slow, the Chinese not having
