We hear that 1913 promises to be a record year for emigration Colony; that is if the returns for principally southwards-from this the first quarter can be regarded as a criterion. The number of persons leaving Hongkong down Kobahicbang-Per Benledi. 10th" to April 1 proves to be 89,843, figures that have never been resohed before in any given quarter of the year. Those for the first quarter of 1911 and 1912 are respectively 28,980 and 19.809.

>

During April of this year the was very markedly less, owing number of emigrants to Singapore to the small-por scare; indeed it fell to 12,819 as against 14,067. in 1912 and 16,784 in 1911. May, however, saw another big rise, the number being 19,819 as against 12,235 in 1912 and 16,934 in 1911; and we believe that that for June will be found to be cor

respondingly high.
