The "Asahi" reports that the Tata iron foundry in India, con- ducted by Mesura. Tata & Sons, recently sant samples of iron produced at the foundry to Mid-9.15 dlesbrough for chemical analysis and examination. The result of the examination was very entie factory, and Messrs. Tats were given a certificate to the effect that the quality of the iron was superior, to the value of over 14 shillings, as compared with the Cleveland iron, which is taken as the standard..

Pig iron imported into Japan, continuas the Osaka journal, is for the most part Cleveland iron. Last year, however, the Mitani Bussan Kaisha signed a contract with Mesars. Tata & Son for im-
