CARPENTIER INTER- VIEWED.

Georges Carpentier has been interviewed by Mr F. N. Lucas (the Paris correspondent of "Boxing") on the subject of the fight with Wells.

"Yes, I am quite looking for- ward to the contest, and, what- over the result, I hope that my friends, both English and French, will retain their esteem for both victor and vanquished, Which- over side Dame Fortune favours, I trust that the result will mean the further consolidating of the fistic entente cordiale."

"Well, of course, it's in con- nection with your forthcoming content with Bombardier Well that I wish you to express your self," quoth I, but the words were scarcely out of my mouth when Georges broke in with the remark, "Well, I'm glad the match is made at last. You 140, VET since I sparred with Wells I have always hoped that I should one day meet him in a ring, Not that there has ever existed any other but the friendliest fesling in the desire, but our styles so blend that I think it should prove one of the finest contents of modern AWARDED A GOLD MEDAL times. On the contrary, I have always entertained the greatest feelings of good-fellowship and admiration for Welle, who, in spite of his recent defeat, is, in my mind, more of an unlucky boxer than an indifferent one."

demanded I.

"So you still think him po sessed of high fistic abilities?" "Yes," replied Carpentier with genuine force, "and although it has been said that I always fancied my chances with your champion, Iin no way look forward to an easy time. On the contrary, know Wella has a hard punch, he isa olever boxer, and I shall be giving a good deal over a stone in weight on that June afternoon at Ghent."
