RECOGNISED
The Chinese Republic has at last been formally and officially recognised by the United States Government, and an exchange of calla has been made between the Chinese officials and the American consuls. One's first impulse, on reading the news, is to attribute America's willingness to lead the way in this respect to the influence of her change of Government and Mr. Woodrow Wilson's well-known sympathies with that form of Democracy which, on being produced in a straight line, becomes Cosmopolitanism."
