ments should not be applied in their osso. (iii) That the allowance for boots be in- oreased from $12 to $24 per annum in viow of the in- crears in cost of boots. The Governor at the same time dealt with the application by the European Police on dollar salaries with exchange compensation. They were entitled to pensions oslouleted at 38. 8d. to the dollar. He recommended that they should be given the option of accepting the now sterling rates recom mondod."
The above proposals were sup plementary to that relating to the rates of oxchange for payment of sterling salaries.
Mr. Harcourt in a reply under date 8th February, 1913, accopted generally the above proposals.
(Continued from Paya 5). The presentfuffered a favourable opportunity for abolishing theso allowances throughout the Force together with thoas for residence in Hill District, Postal Wurk, Supervising Boat Paint ing, and Inspection of Dangerous Goods. The allowances for supervision of Distilleries and Collection of Liquor Duties should be revised, the collection of duties, which involved financial responsibility alone being paid for. The allowances attached to Yaumati, Shamshuipo and Bay View would thus be abolished while those at the remaining stations with the exception of Kowloon City would be reduced to $10 in the case of Choung Chau and to $5 for each of the other stations including
receipt of sterling No. 3 Police Launch. This salaries or of exchange com measure would effect a saving pensation, resulting in in of $365 a month. The following excess on the estimates for 1913 allowances should be retained of $10,028. In connection with (a) For Conveyance, (b) For this matter, a careful caloalation Knowledge of Languages, (c) For showed that since 1902 the Datective Staff, (d) For Rations, increase incost of living including (e) For Finger Print (special rent amounted for Portuguese knowlogo), () For Drill lastruct and Indians to 23 per cent, and 29 or (special knowlege), (g) For per cent. for Chinese, the higher Medal (reward for special ser percentage in the vices), (b) For Registrar of Births, the latter being due to the high (i) For Telephons, j) For School price of rice and local vegetables, Monitor, (k) For Fire Brigado, to the larger comparative increase For Theatre Duties, (m) For Colin rontals of Chinese flats as com lection of Crown Rent...
The Governor recommended that if the European contingent were willing to forego the allow aners referred to above the following increases should be granted in addition to the incronso resulting from the alteration in the rate of exchange for payment of salaries:
