The Bank rate remains un changed at 5 per cent. The Open. "market rate for short loans is 4 per cent., and discount of "four months' Bank bills 49-16 to 4.5-8 per cent. The Silver market hàn been very steady, the price of bars remaining at 29 d. throughout the week. In the Rubber share market the only interesting feature is the continued demand for pro- mising shares of the young producer" type; otherwise the market remains quietly firm. The report of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Com- pany has been issued. It in- dicates certain changes in regard to the management, but contains no reference to any schemes of amalgamation with other com- panies us so freely rumoured of Inte. The meetings have been held of Batavia Plantation Invest- mente, Limited, and the Devon Estates (Malacca). Limited. In China Tea a fair business is passing at recent quotations, Coffee has met with fairly good
