Since the enforcement of the Light Railway Law, there has been a marked increase in the THEATRE construction of that ureful means of traffic. In October there wale 133 applications for charters, with an aggregate mileage of 1,838 and a capital of 95,317,300 yen. Since the adoption of the Law oharters granted for the construction of these lines have numbered over 100, with a total mileage of 2,814 and an aggregate capital of 124,

· 1908,150 yen. Adding to these the lines that have recently appli ed for charters, the total mileage will reach over 4,052, with an aggregate capital of over 220,- : 225,500 yen. When all these lines are completed, communice- tion in the interior of the country will be greatly facilitated, and as
