| 200,000 square miles, embracing population of something like fifty millions, and you will find the Hongkong ten-cent piece used in preference to the Canton coin of the same denomination. These are facts which cannot be con- traverted: they are within the experience of every businoss man who trades in these regions, and it will thus be seen that the pre- sent attempt of the Chinese to prevent the same conditions obtaining in the British Colony, for whose use these coins were manufactured, is an amazing exhibition of impertinence. In any circumstances and especial- ly in the circumstances we have outlined it cannot appear at all unreasonable that a British firm, or any other firm doing business in this Colony, should demand tà · be raid in the legal currency of the Colonr. The facts we have quoted show the hollowness of: the Chinese profest, and afford ample justification for the drastic action the Colonial Government propose to take against the expres- sion of that protest by a boycott,
