One day out of Amoy about 200 miles out in tho open sea the officer on the bridge reporter to Captain Matthews that there something floating on the starboard side. Captain Matthews immediately order ed the course to be changed. and headed for the reported object which proved to be a small fishing bout drifting nimlessly along with the currente. As the steamer came closer it was found that the little craft con- tained three men lying on the bottom of the boat, none of whom gave any sign of life.
