The Tramway Boycott. To prove the loyalty of work- men to the decrees is ued by some guild or guilds directing this boycott, we are informed that in spite of the cold and rainy weather which is now being 61- porienced in Hongkong, hundreds of Chinese employed at Taikoo Dock trudge daily from Causeway Bay and other parts of the town to their workshops, whilst others cheerfully pay four cents for con voyance by launch from Observa- tion Place, &o., and two cents each to the sampon people for landing them in the neighbour- hood of their work. On the other haud the charge made by the Tramways Co. was two cents. We are confronted therefore with the foot that the poorer classes (* are so banded together in this boycott that they saorifice the comfort of travelling expeditions- ly and obeaply, and out of the amall pittances earned by the coolie as well as the larger wage: of the skilled artisan a much larger percentage is now paid in order to maintain the attitude" outlined by the agitators. In fact, it seems to us that such a gift. would show more convincingly. than almost anything-infinitely more convincingly than all the loyalty displayed at any Durbar that India's native Princes welcome the opportunity of show- ing that they look upon India as an integral part of the Empire, and that as such she is ready and. willing to contribute her share to- wards the expense of the proper maintenance and the future possibilities of the Empire, so the question of defence is concernod.
