Oil Trade Progress.

September 30 was the second annivesary of the dramatis deo loration of the war of prices by the Standard Oil Company. That great organisation, says the

a

Financier had accumulated 115,000,000 barrels of oil; and announced its intention of selling them off. Prices fell to a very low level, and millions of pounds were lost by producers. Exactly 12 months later to a day the first indications of a rapprochement became apparent. Now another 12 months have passed, and while

sensational announcement" falls to be made on the present occasion, the progress which can be recorded is no less remarkable. The prices of practically all petroleum products have steadily risen since peace was declared, the total advance in Great Britain amounting in the case of ill aminating oil to from 50 to 100 per cent, in patrol to 60 per cont., and in lubricating and heavy oils to nearly 40 per cent. For. fuel oil the demand is so insistent that quotations are un obtainable. The advance in prices has been worldwide. At the mo ment the most striking feature of the industry is the inadequacy of transport facilities to cope with the rapidly increasing demand.
