Vessel Sunk a Wharf,

A remarkable accident codur- roil on August 25 at Ancon, at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, when the wharf suddenlo collapsed, sinking the Pacify Mail str. Newport, one of the Panama traders, which had been lying alongside. The wharf had been constructed by the French when the canal project was first mooted and, owing to the large rise and fall in the tides, which at springa amounts to more than 17 ft., was built to an unusual Loight.
