The "Times" review of Marine Underwriting in August show that the total losses were compara- tively light, amounting, accord- ing to the estimate given, to £114,000; ne compared with a{ total estimated loss of £16,000 'in July. It should be remembered. though, that in addition to the losser included in the estimate, several casualtiesoccourred which are likly to bring substantially claims, and that, following the exceptionally unfavourable ex porionos of the first half of the Dalji year, the losses of the last two months could not have boon too light to suit the insurance markete.

Diesel Engine Development. Any backwardness in the state of Diesel engine development in England for marine purposes, says the "Motor Ship and Motor Boat," is not so much due to the. unwillingness of the British ship-Yatshing, owner to adopt this now form of propulsion, as to the unreadiness of the manufacturer to supply his] demands.
