Thinking, Imperially. During the past few days there. hos bean most eloquent and con
vincing manifestation of the ties which bind the various parts of the enipiro. The recent declara- tion that the dominion of Canada was prepared to contributo a substantial addition to the fleet of the empiro must have caused" no little rejoicing in the hearts of mon who "think imporially," and this same announcement must have como as a revelation and an object losson to many countries who may have been inclined to. think that the empire was being held together by only the flimsy tion of mutual commercial inter- ests. The magnificent gifts made by sturdy dominions aversens during recent years have given a wonderful impetus to imperial thought, and we feel sure that the appeals made in London a few days ago for the promotion of the campaign which was so elronu- ously advocated by Mr. Joseph. Chamberlain inspired our staten- men both at home and abroad to greater effort, so as to develop and make permanent great tradal interests throughout the vast empire. Our great hope of the futuro lies in Canada. Lord Grey predicted that the day was com ing when Canada.will be the con- tre of the empire, and the leader of the Britannia nationa. It is to that country that the Britishers now emigrate in their thousands.
