Mystory surrounds the fute of the four Japaness and four Moros who comprised the crew of the Japanese pearling vessel which was looted by pirates near Jolo, early in April. The first dispatch. tolling of the affair was received from the "Manila Times' " corres- pondent and ascribed the orime to the piratical Moros who tooted the light house on Mataja, wound- ing the keeper.

The customs cutter Skua was sent out to investigate, and the report of her skipper has just been received at the custom house. An excerpt from the report follows:

"Pursuant to instructions the. Skus loft Jolo on April 8 and pro coeded to the island of Capual, to investigate the looting of the pearl boat Santa Maria, as was by Mr. Nakamura. reported

at the island of Arriving Capual, we found the pearl boat, stranded on the beach and no signs of life on board. All the poarl shells and food that won on board had been stolen, but the diving apparatus and boat gear had not been molested. Altør) pulling the pearl bost off the beach, we cruised around the islands in the vicinity of Capual, looking for the crew, which consisted of four Japanese and four Moros, but no traces of them were found, and up to date their disappearance is a mystery. The Hkqs returned to Jolo on the following day.
