"By the simple expodient of tak ing up purchasos as they fall due and lodging the pctual silver in the Bank of England-instead of prolonging delivery for another 2 inonths, as has been done for more than a year past, a largo portion of the speculative holding hitherto represented by paper contracts, has been transmuted into actual silver.
The scrow can be maintained' long as the supply of forwardi ~contracís hold out; meanwhile the bears, who now seemi confined to the Bombay market, ato compelled to pay the artificial prices which rule current horo.
