According to Meners. H. R. Mer- ton & Co., the stocks of coppor in England and France at the end of September amounted to 57,765 lons, or 024 tons less than at the end of August. Including gar gocs afloat from Chilli and Aus tralia, the total stocks were raised to 67,340 tons, an increase of 426 tons for the month, though the last fortnight has witnessed a re- duction of 837 tons. The price of the metal fell about 22a, Od. in the course of the month. Septem ber's supplies are returned at 33,- 300 tons, with deliverica of 32,043 tons; those being lower figures than for any month since Fe- bruary last.

In the matter of company pro- moting 1010 was a year of great activity. The annual report of the Comptroller of the Companies Department of the Board of Trade shows that the total number of nos 'concerns registered in the United Kingdom during the 12 months was 7,184, of which 6,707. wero registered in England, 253 in Scotland, and 124 in Ireland. Owing in great measure to the boom in rubber and oil there was an increase in England and Wales of 874, but decreases in the other parts of the United Kingdom brought the not increase over the- figures for 1000 down to 811.
