Minimising Mal De Mer. Seasickness is a subject on which most Hongkong residents could dilats at very considerable length if they only chose to; they know from experience all thoy wish to learn about it. ¡ But, conversely, they are keenly utorosted in any manner of means which has for its aim the minimising of the conditions which produes mal de mer; hence they will read with a certain degroo of joyful hope of the suc cess of recent experiments, the object of which is to reduce to the lowest possible limits the rolling of ocean-going slips. As everybody knows, the main causes of seasickness are the rolling of tho ship and the unpleasant motion dup to a combination of rolling

There is plenty of talent in the Colony, and in Mr. J. Itabertson the Club has a stage manager who knows his work. What is chiefly moede, as Mr. Sutherlandl painted out, is the hearty co- operation of every membor in promoting interest in the Club in its work and in securing poo ple willing to assist in the work on the stage. We sincerely hope that the appeal will not be made. in vain and trust that the public statement of the difficulties of thio institution will be the meane of securing for it a renewed lease of lifo.

The Surplus Meeting, The reception of the proposal to allocate the Coronation surplus to three deserving institutions. left no doubt as to the feeling of last night's meeting of the subscribers. The larga attendance was indicative of keen public interest, and it was gratifying to note that practically every section of the community was | represented. At the outset the meeting was asked to vote in a particular way-zo many votes for

dollars. Curiously →nough it agreed to do so, and the absurdity of the situation did not become apparent until near the end of the prooolings when one of those present raised the question of who and how many were to vote on behalf of compa- nies which had subscribed to the Inud? Not a few of the subscriptions to the fud were anonymous and it might also have been asked if anonymous. contributors wore to be disfran chised, or how they were to be represented by suoli' a method of voting?
