More Steamers for Japan- The Bon Line steamer Ben- mohr, which arrived at Kobo from Hongkong on June 7, has been sold to a Japanose, limu in Kobo. Tho Bounohr, which is a steel vessel of 3,000 tons gross, was built in 1893 by Stophen & Sons, Casgow.

The Britisk stormship Geor- gia has been mill to a Japanese firm.. The tieorgia is of 2,707) tons gross, built at Nowcastle, in 1889, for the Sun Steamship Co.

The Liverpool stenner Brocou- shico, Captain Tomlinson, of 5,000 tons gross and 3,655 tons not register, owned by Mossre, T. and J. Brocklobank (Lad,), which has been running to the Far East in conjunction with the Shire

Tonnage of Japanese Steamships. The tonnage of Japquese stoom- slips now totals 1,255,000 tons' and that of sailing vessels 105,000 tons. During the period from THE CHINA PROVIDENT

January to April last, an increase

of 72,000 tons was shown in the stoamers and of 14,000 tons in the sailing vessels. During last your seventy-one steamors were built in Japan, representing a total tounaga of 35,644, in addition to 144 sailing vessels with a total Tonnage of 11,205.

Japanese Service to Bonin Islands.

The Yokohama Chamber of Commerce las pétitionód, the Gov-| ornment to inaugurato a steam- ship servies betweon Yokohama, the Bonin Islands, the Marshall,' Caroline, and Mariana Islands, and Guam.

It is contended that if this be doue, mails between those points and Europe can be more rapidly delivered than at present, when they have first to be sent to Hong- kong and thence to Tairen.
