The British Armada.

One of the most imposing features of the recent Coronation functions in the homeland was the

ssenblage at Spitlend of repre- entative ships of the British Navy, Altogether there were 187 vessels, including 32 battleships, and no greater gathering of tons and guns had hitherto been [ani witnessed. The Dreadnoughts alone equalled the completed Dreadnought strength of Gor many, the United States, Japan and Franca combined. The fleat thus assembled under one flag and for the one peaceful pur pose of doing honour to the Sailor King taxed the des oriptivo powers of the correspon- dents even to being named the 1098 object lesson of British maritimo power" and "the mightiest armada that ever rode the sons, yet, as weshall show, it represented considerably less than one-third of the effective fighting ships of the British navy. For every ship roviewod by the King on June 24, there were at least two ful filling the functions of the navy plsewhere, on foreign stations, or at other porta round the British const; while for every two shipe at Spithead there was one under bonstruction at one or other of the 3 (79 numerous yards in the Kingdom.
