A Great Asset-

Magnificently as the Coronation at Westminister appeals to the imagination, there seamen yot greater grandeur and significance in the saloom Coronation Cero- mony which is to take place in the ancient capital of the Mogul Empire next December when the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland an nounces his arcossion to the In- perial Throno of ludia, in the presence of all the native Princes and of a great multitude of repre- sentatives of all the peoples of that, vast Empire. It is an event un- paralleled in the history of the world. And if the King is ublo to leave the soat of Empire for a couple of months to visit bis Indion Empire, may ire not look to see this precodent followed in course of time by personal visits of the monarch and his Royal consort to the great Oversea | Dominions to Canada, to South Africo, and the Australian Com- monwealth? Indeed, we think this may be predicted with some degree of confidence. The his toric tour of the British Dominions which their presont Majostica took as the Duke and Ducloss of York gave them an idon of the the vast realms over which they night, dominion and power of now rule which was the best possible preparation for rulership; and at a time when the idea of imperial unity is forcing itself powerfully on the imagination of the people it is great asset to have upon the Thune a Monarch so thoroughly in sympathy with that ideal, and so keenly desirous, of promoting its realisation.

South China Morning Past,

The Seaman's Strike. From the public point of view the most pleasing feature about the strike is that it has not as sumed the world-wide scope at- first threatened. The affair sermis to have been confined pretty much to the vessels trading to European parts and America, while through the unexpected concessions of the. leading companies, the travelling and trading public has practically not suffered at all. It is only natural to expect that the suc cossful outcome of the propaganda.. preached by Union agitators at the dock gates an l on board the ocean liners will result in a great fillip to the strength of the Union of Sos- men, and it is to be hoped that the. authorities will keep an eye upon this body to prevent it, flushed o it is with succoss, from any indis cretion which may result in in- monse harm to British world interests A universal Bomen's strike of eyens few weeks duration would be a knock-out blow to Bri- tish slupping and a nations disaster. England in a very short time would be reduced

bordering upon starvation, all the. big industrine standalill, dooks would beuroded.
