Unlikorecent instances of heavy losses, the Morida is not the highest valued vessel in the floot but she is valued at noarly £200,000, of which, says tho "Times," about £170,000 is in- surod in London with the com- panies and with underwriters n Lloyd's, while London companies with Now York office are also interested to a considerable ex- toni in the remaining sum placod in the United States. The Merida was a fine steamer of 1,207 tons built in 1806 at Philadelphia and owned by the New York and Cuba Mail Steamship Company. She was equipped with refrigerating machinery and wireless tole- graphy apparatus, and was cap- able of steaming 17 kunts.
Nothing is known yet of any cargo which the vessel may have carried, though uros, coffee, and tobacco are shipped at Vorn Craz, and the steamer may have londed valuable cargo at intermediate ports. But as the Morida was carrying about 200 passengers, a
