The admir able work performed in Hong- kong in thisconnection has proved boneficial to the health of the colony, not to speak of its in-. lucuce on rainfall and soil pre servation. When the British took over the island of Hungkong, its slopes aro ́anid to have becii as barren as the brown rangos on the mainland, whilo, in striking contrast, one of the most attractive fentures of Hongkong to-day is the luxurianco of its vegetation at all Ecasons of the year.
