THE LOSS OF THE

"TOYO-MARU."

We learn that Mr. Umebayashi Yasujiro, master, and Mr. Ogats Katenichi, chief engineer, of the "Toyo-maru," which sank recent- ly whilst on her way from Onomi- ohi to Miyajima, were arrested on the 27th April, on a warrant issued by the Hiroshima Court, apparent ly on a charge of manslaughter, over twenty passengers having gone down with the steamer.

The plague return for week ending May 6th shows that since the 1st January, 24 cases have been notified-all Chinese--and of this number 22 have died: Dur ing the 48 hours ending noon May 8th one case has occurred, a Chinese, who lisa died.
