PHILHARMONIC

SOCIETY'S CONCERT.

Friday night the Philharmonic Society gave a very successful concert in the St. George's Hall, Thero was a very lurgoattendance, (amongst whom was Lady Latgard, one of the vice-presidents of the society.

The programme opened with the orchestral selection “Liobos- traum" (by_E_von_Blun),-which- was rendered by a band of 20 instrumentalists, under the buton of Mr. Donian Fuller. The rou- during was excellent and called forth onthusiastic applause.

Mrs. Schofield with doring Thomas' "Le Baiser" ́scored a hugo success, for the excellent' manner in which she handled hor fino voice, and the clarity of her onunciation, was everything that could be desired.

Cesur Frunck's "Sonata" for violin and piano, given by Messrs. Timinorsheidt and Dan- nenberg, proved very popular and was heartily applauded.

The next item was a duol, "Nocturne" by Chaminade, which was rendered in fine style by Dr.and Mrs. Schofield. The audience wazed rapturous over what was oasily the triumph of the first part, and an encore was demanded and given.
