The following is from a letter. addressed by Sir Hiram Maxim, to the Morning Post :-

I was inspired with no other wish than to stop the effusion of blood which is always inseparable from forcing a new form of faith on to an unwilling peoplo, especially so if the new faith possessos doctrines which are în direct opposition to what is considered by tham to bo just and moral.
