THE BARTH'S AGE.

SCIENTISTS' Confictino vIKWJ, Geologists and physic'sts have differed for many years in their datimates of the geological age of the earth. As a rule, geologists hava placed their estimates at 300,300,000 years, whlie the physicista deduced, pilocipally from thermodynamic cbaditions, the comparatively abort ega of 20,000,000 or 30,000,000 years, Profesor Frank Wigglesworth Clarke and George F. Becker, of the United States Geolo- gical Survey, are the latest scientists to extimate the age of the sarth. They say its a la "pot over 70,900,000 1 or 55,000,000 years."

This extimate has rocaived cfil:al sanction through its publication by the Smithsonian Institution. Professor Clarko presents bis de- daciloos from a chemirat standpoint, and re- views al the available data collected from various parts of the world. His thesis on the subject is entled "A Prolim'nary Etudy of Chetnical Denudation.

Mr. Becker wiites on the subj :ct more from the philosopher's point of view, and the title of his paper is "The ga of the Earth,"
