Mr. Alzbarer stated that prisoneŻ WAT charged under three courts, which were (1) forgery with intent to defraud; (2) uttering n forged document; and (3) obtaining goods by virtue of a document purponing to come from the Chptain of the Drumalios On the 9th October last, defendant was entitled to a certain sum of money which was in the hands of the Captain, the amount being dus for wages. The trades people could only give the seamen goods, under an order signed by the Captain. On Sunday the ship was to have if, and the Captain mads up the accounts on the previous day. He said he would not givi more chits before the ship, fait but he did sign a few chita. On Sunday the defendant left the ship without permission and gave the ship's tailor a plece of paper and obtained $20 worth of goods. The forgery was bound to be dis- covered. The master had money doe to the defendant in his possession and it was very foolish of defendant to act as he did, because although he gained some advant age by obtaining the clothes, the Cap sain did not stand to less anything. The defendant pleaded that he was not sober at the time and had no intentionofdefrauding anyone,
