The new Seamen's Institute, which was formally opened on the 18th ultimo by. II.E Sir Henry. Hay, was officially inspected by Commodors. 1. C. Eyrer, R.N. on Monday afternoon. Accompanying Commodore Bytes were the Bishop of Victoria, Very Rev. G. H. Laador; Rev. C. E. Thompson, chaplain to the Seamen's Mission; Hon. Mr. W. Chatham, G.M.G, Director of..Pablic Works; and Sir Hormasjee Mody, the donor of the building. The Commodore, made a thorough inspec- tion of the new Institute in every part and at the conclusion of his round he expressed; himself as highly satisfed with all that he had seen, extolling the completeness with which, the work had been carried out and the excellent results thereby obtained in pro- vidiog accommodation for sedman, in Hoog. kang. Commodete Eyres also expressed bis appreciation of the munificent nature of Sir Hormonjes Mody's gift, and thanked him on behalf of the seafaring community.
