The oil producers in North Echigo, on reading the article, became much incaused with the en. vincer, and called the people in the vicluity to boar witness that both the Japan Kerosene Company and the Hoden Keresant Company bad purchased from Mr, Naksud, the owner of the wall referred to more than 1,0čo koku of the vil¿daily. LOCAL' OPINION,

In view of the important change which the past few days have brought about to the aspect of the rubbor market, several prominent rubber operators were interviewed this morning by a representative of the Telegraph with the object of Ricertaining their opinions regarding ihp sudden rise that had taken place. On all sides

· It appeared to ba a sound belief that the most recent developments in connection with rubber were the outcome of a big "bear" movement, and that now their purposst had been accom- plished it was more than likely that prices would go up still higher, to some quarters, indeed, the conviction is strongly held that during this summer the rubber market a d the share market will reach yet even higher marki than those which have hitherto been recorded. It will not be considered out of place to remiad lavestors to keep plainly to view the fact that they should refrain from buying, what they cannot pay for. There seems to be connenans of opinion in broking circles in Hongkong that the notable fluctuations of the rubber market since Friday have been caused by the manipulations of New York bests, and it has to be boms in mind that what the bears have done onca they can do again.

A RUBBER FORECAST. /

In a brochura entitled Rabber Companies Blatistics, just published, Mr. Arthur Shepliard says that rubber planting in the Middle East is anjindustry which has come to stay. It will not, he says, continue to yield the rich profits which have been resped by pioneers in the past; but „that an important now indus ty has been create ed which will for many years continue to yield more than ordinary commercial profit has beed abundantly demonstrated and is now fully re- "cognised by the lavastor. ` la submitting his,
